The mission had been a success. The Blue Team of the X-Men had picked up a Skrull who had the ability to imitate anyone he came in contact with, much like Mystique. In fact, they had at first believed the imposter to be Rogue's adoptive mother. However, much to the young girl's pleasure, the Skrull was far from mommy dearest.

Upon arriving back at the Mansion, however, intensive questioning ensued. The Skrull was particularly adept at shielding his mind from the Professor, and so Rogue had been asked to touch him... thus learning his true identity and motives. Touching people was something Rogue hated to do, even in dire circumstances. She had only recently become herself again, and didn't want another persona to take over. As she had been contemplating her decision alone in her room, Gambit had entered. True, she had been attracted to him from the start. And it was obvious that he had an infatuation with her - but she refused to allow herself to hope for a normal relationship. Therefore, she was always agitated when he would follow her and provoke her emotions.

"What do ya want?" she asked, rolling her eyes with irritation. Of course, he had wanted to help her... to soothe her. And thus the argument ensued. He would push their dating, and she would argue that they couldn't. Finally, she stormed from the room with Gambit on her heels. But what happened next was completely unheard of. Rogue stopped dead in her tracks, Gambit only barely managing to not run into her back. They were standing in front of several versions of the same man – Multiple Man. “Ah, hell,” she groaned, lifting off the ground in flight, preparing for a fight.
